Free Will and Polarity, The Good vs. Evil Debate

I want to address an issue that seems to be of concern for many. Three questions or statements related to this issue that often come up include: Why does God let bad things happen? If there is a God, why does evil exist? If there was a God, he wouldn’t let ________ (fill in the blank for you) happen.

The reason things you perceive as bad or evil exist is a result of one of the greatest gifts God has given you and each one of us, and that is Free Will - the freedom to choose and experience anything you want. Actually, you have the power to create anything you can imagine.

Let me explain further:

In all situations, including both your outward experiences and inner thoughts (both more properly termed “catalyst”), there is always the choice; The choice to perceive that thought or experience as good or bad, positive or negative, light or dark. As each of us gain in our experience we tend to move farther away from neutral center. Our choices become biased by our previous perceptions. Thus the transformation begins. Let’s use a newborn child for example. As children enter the world, they come to us with a fresh perspective; The innocence of not knowing, what we perceive as, right and wrong. As time goes on, they continue to learn and make choices based upon their previous experiences.

Each of us is offered the choice in every moment with every circumstance. Our freedom to choose is always biased by our previous experiences, whether this exists at a conscious level or not. As a result, we become more and more polarized to seeing the good in the world and other living creatures (more properly termed other selves) or the bad. As we attain greater awareness through a culmination of experiences and understanding of our relationship with the world around us, we choose whether we want to either be of service to others (positive) or serve ourselves (negative). Each moment of our creation affords us this opportunity; That is, to use our energy to enlighten those around us or retain this for ourselves. Polarization is actually one of the integral reasons our world is the way it is now. Concepts that we think of as horrific have been presented to us in order for us to make a choice; Is this who I choose to be or is it not? God loves us all and has no bias for either path. For those of us on the altruistic service-to-others path (thankfully for us we are in the vast majority) it may often seem like there is pointless evil in the world. But, it is exactly this bias which demonstrates how far we have evolved as a social complex along the positive path.

Now the questions become; Why the choice? Why didn’t God just create a Garden of Eden and leave it at that?

You must first understand that we are all one. We are each an extension of the one infinite creator. The whole purpose for existence is for God to experience itself, for each of us (as a smaller piece of the whole) to experience the magnificence of the creator and the creation. God knows of our beauty and magnificence but wants to experience it. God is evolving and learning, like each one of us, but on a macrocosmic scale. God has learned that polarity enhances our perception of the creation by increasing our will. When we will, we create. Let me say that again; We will thus we create. Increased will means new and more wonderous ways of God experiencing itself. This concept may become clearer if you try to picture someone completely contented and lazily lying around the house watching TV versus (Let me use one of my personal heroes) Lance Armstrong, a person who chooses a grand goal and dedicates himself wholeheartedly to accomplishing that goal. God doesn’t want us all to sit and watch the world unfold. Polarity is God’s way of saying “Wake up! Get up and do something with yourself! Create!”

And the great thing is (and this is very applicable for many of us at this time) once we have polarized enough, we get to sluff off the junk and start living in that Garden of Eden. God just wants to motivate us to create a new and wondrous place!
